India’s biggest eCommerce giant Flipkart had reportedly partnered with a group of dabbawalas in Mumbai for prepaid delivery orders, cash on delivery orders and their whole planned will be revealed soon.
As of this partnership, members of the dabbawalas union will collect delivery orders from the Flipkart hubs (which will get allocated soon) and will deliver it to customers, along with the Dabbas.
Also, Flipkart has recently launched a crowdsourced delivery option which aims to connect local sellers and buyers with the help of voluntary delivery personnel. Currently, Flipkart has partnered only for long mile deliveries, the dabbawalas will not be in contact with the sellers. The initial pilot will be for prepaid orders – getting rolled out for COD deliveries as the association expands.
And for those who don’t know, it has been almost a month for the tie-up between Amazon and local kirana stores, just for the same purpose, Last Mile Deliveries.
