CEO for Facebook Mark Zuckerberg recently made an announcement that Mark and her wife Prisilica, will be donating 99% of Facebook Shares, valuing nearly $45 billion to a new charity, addressing a letter to her new born daughter Max, who took birth last week.
The announcement was officially made by a letter Mark posted on his Facebook page. As per Mark, the aim of this initiative is to advance human potential and promote equality for all children in the next generation. The initiative also addresses other high-profile billionaires like Warren Buffet, who have promised to donate a set of their share through different foundations.
The 99 percent of shares will be donated by Mark and Chan over the lifetime to advance this initiative. It was formed as a limited liability company controlled by the two. It will begin by focusing on personalized learning, curing disease, Internet connectivity and community building.
But while the 31-year-old’s previous charitable efforts have been criticised for being too focused on building Facebook’s user base, this latest pledge appears to leave the Facebook business to one side.
In his letter, Mark said, “We know this is a small contribution compared to all the resources and talents of those already working on these issues. But we want to do what we can, working alongside many others.”
