Union Minister for communications and IT, Ravi Shankar Prasad announced on Tuesday that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will be offering free national roaming calls from 15th June. The service is currently being used by over 10 crore people all over India. This means that now, Location won’t matter for BSNL users! It won’t cost them high, no matter from where in the country are they operating their phone!
Two months back, BSNL invested 7,000Cr rupees to provide broadband connections to over 20,000 villages, and now, will be providing free National roaming to it’s users. “From 15th June BSNL roaming will be free all over the nation,” Prasad said.
Last month, renowned Telecom companies like Reliance, Vodafone and Airtel reduced their roaming charges, following the national roaming tariff cut-out by TRAI, and now, since BSNL have made it absolutely free, I’m very eager to know how other telecoms are going to respond to it.
Full MNP services from July
BSNL also announced that they’ll offer full MNP (Mobile Number Portability) all across India from July. Earlier, this plan was set up to be executed on 3rd of May but due to some technical issues, it was delayed to July. Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad tweeted this news as well.
